Hi you can try a number of options nowadays. But Hypnotherapy, acupuncture and TFT are well know as some of the best. See a Hypnotherapist who can advise you. Ensure they don't only use aversion therapy. If you need any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me dochsa.co.uk

Contact you doctors and ask them about your local 'quit smoking program' run by the NHS. You will need attend weekly and talk about the last weeks experiences, also you will need to do a little test to to prove you have not been smoking. You will also get aids to help you stop, ie patches, gum, etc etc all on prescription - what ever suits you. I know it does sound like joining 'AA' but really it does work. Your all there together trying to quit and having others around you going through the same thing does help. Give it a go, it will cost you nothing and you will gain everything.

You and me both. You have to just quit cold turkey, I guess. Find something to do other than that drat cigarrette! And---that is from someone with the same habit, hope you quit! Do it for me, then tell me how!

Your answer is written right in your question.... You are only

TRYING... you are not ...DOING..

When I stopped, I stopped. I threw out all the cigarettes and never smoked again.

The end.

Yes. Do as I did after several other unsuccessful attempts. I said "When I've finished this packet, I'm not buying any more" - and I didn't, and it was as simple as that. I had no withdrawal symptoms, no ill feelings - nothing -- and that was about six years ago, and I've never even THOUGHT about having a smoke since then.
(Out of interest, I nearly said F A G then, but the bloody stupid yankee yahoo spellcheck won't allow an Englishman to use such a horrible, disgusting and offenS ive word like that, and you should see what happens with "offens ive" if you type it properly too!)

Me too, but finally did. I used the commit lozenge. Worked great, I haven't smoked in 9 months. They are a little pricey, but over the long run they cost a lot less than cigarettes....and when you think about cancer or dying the cost for the lozenge or patch or what ever is priceless. Best of luck!

There is a new medicine out that your doctor can prescribe a friend of mine in on it she has smoked for over 20 years and it has helped her quit. Ask your doctor the name of it though, sorry don't remember that about it.

The first time I gave up was while I was at work. what i used to do was to put my packet of ciggies up on the filing cabinet, and each time i would go to grab one, I would say to myself no i'll leave it until my break.

then when on my break i would go to grab it again and say no i'll leave it until lunch time

I did this everyday and then my boss helped me out by making the office a non smoking zone and stopped my breaks for a couple of weeks.. It worked..

if u 've been trying to quit smoking then it would be for someone reason u've not listed
so if u have the reason very close to ur heart then u dont have to have any tips on leaving smoking
u have to ask urself "why do i want to leave cig smoking?"and if u can answer that then u can quit smoking
otherwise dont quit by smoking atleast u r doing one good thing giving job opportunities to cig. companies
always be happy with whatever u do

What worked for was that I didn't tell anybody that I was going to stop. I just stopped, if nobody knows that you are trying to give up they won't keep asking you how you are managing without a cigarette. There are also some nice people who, if they know you are trying to stop, aggravate you by deliberately blowing smoke in your face trying to weaken your resolve. I stopped in 1968. Good luck.

This has to be one of the hardest things a person can do! I smoked for 18yrs. I decided to stop in Jan & done well for 3-4 months. Then I was back on them gradually one by one, day by day. I decided to quit again 2 months ago although I still had the odd one when out drinking! To be honest, I don't think everyone can stop things right away. Maybe try wean yourself off them. Try cutting down day by day. This is usually easier!! Good Luck. I'm doing without it 2 wks so far!!!

A lot of people have great success using the prescription drug Welbutrin to help with the cravings/habit of smoking.
You need to go to a doc to get the prescription, and s/he will likley be only too happy to help.
Using a specific program of Wellbutrin and gradually decreasing doses of "the patch" has a very good success rate.

Alan Carr - DEFINITELY!

It's a really good book and it turns around the way you think about needing a fag (and I'm a total cynic so if it worked on me...!)

Also, we have a local 'stop smoking service' which will prescribe any of the non-smoking aids you need to help and they're free! Your GP surgery should have info on your local service. Mine was really good 'cos it meant you didn't have to join some stupid group - it's like going to see the doctor and they don't crucify you if you mess up first time either.

I would try Alan Carr and if that doesn't work, call your gp surgery and ask where to go to the local stop smoking service. At least these options don't cost much! (the book cost me about a tenner from WH Smiths and the stop smoking service is free)

Good luck!!

you need a mantra that works for you. i used valerian/lobelia drops too -- you can get those at health stores. if you use nicotine products they just transfer your adddiction. statistically they aren't that great. it also usually takes a few times -- so don't feel like a loser if it doesn't work the first few times.

Peace...................... Off.
Niccorette inhalators - I gave up four months ago using these and found it quite easy ( I smoked for 25 years previously). They are a bit like having a cigarette. You can have a puff on one if you feeling stressed - now I don't use them at all and feel great. I tried reading Alan Carr and he got on my nerves - just a load of waffle.

You must go to your Doctor, they are really trying to get people to give up. You will be given a prescription for a drug, which really works. A friend of mine went into the garden after having taken one tablet, tried to smoke her last packet of cigarettes and came back after having only smoked a half a cigarette. You must also go to the Support Group Sessions as these people really are a great help. BUT you must really WANT to give up, before you go to your Doctor. You must have a positive attitude. Sorry to nag especially as I am an always non-smoker but I was amazed at the result for my friend. She smoked since she was about 16 and was in her 50's before she went to the Doctor and was smoking about 20 a day. You don't say how many you smoke. However many, you will need support.

Have a go, you won't regret it.
