A lot of the herbal teas, like, Chamomile, Peppermint and Jasmine help to calm and soothe (Jasmine is particularly helpful with aiding and relieving stress)...I'd stay away from anything with caffeine or added sugar, that will do nothing but reek havoc on your poor system. Using scented bath oils, like Jasmine, Lavender, Chamomile and Orange also soothe and comfort.
If you can get the herbs and vitamins from your every day food and drink, like adding more omega 3 fatty acid (helps in reducing anxiety and jitters) by eating more fish (which also helps ward off the blues), taking flax oil or using flax seed in your food, that would be helpful too.
Vitamins and supplements are good, I would check all of them out before first using them (in pill form)...the FDA doesn't regulate the usage of them, so there's no real warning labels on the bottles (ie for certain medical conditions and drug interactions)...if you could afford it, try looking up a local Alternative Medicine Doctor or Nurse Practitioner...they have a lot of pharmaceutical grade supplements and vitamins you can buy direct and can really recommend them to you, work with you about drug interactions, recommended dosages, etc. Or if you have a local Health Market you could always ask around too...(but a lot of people that work in there don't have to have formal training, stick with someone you know and trust if you go that route! Hope this helps!

B vitamins have been known to help as well as Calcium/Magnesium supplements. Also getting adequate rest and general nutriion (enough protein, etc.) can help.
I would also highly recommend you check out the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health that you can get at Amazon.com or at your local library for free to help you get more understanding of what is happening and what you can do about it.
Take care.

YOGA. Good for mind and body. Very relaxing and calming. May take longer to work, but results will last.

The best way to deal with acute anxiety is to treat the root cause.
However, until you solve the problem you can drink valerian tea, soak in a hot bath, put 1 drop of lavender oil on your bedsheets, and do deep breathing exercises.

Valerian root, standard dose, if effective. If not, double the dose.

Things that helped me particularly with this included scullcap and valerian-- both herbal extracts.
And getting rich helps a lot, too.

There are a number of herbs that help treat acute anxiety.
1. St.John's Wort - An analysis found that St. John's wort may benefit people with minor depression; these benefits may be similar to those from standard antidepressants. But St. John's wort appeared to produce fewer side effects than some standard antidepressants.
2. Gotu kola - It has been used for: wound healing, better circulation, memory enhancement, cancer, vitality, strengthening of veins (varicose veins), blood purifier, high blood pressure, sedative, anti-stress, anti-anxiety, immune booster, etc.
You can get more of this on Mamaherb.

Just try making a pot of tea and relaxing to some quiet music. Camomile tea is very calming and soothes the digestion.

There are specific nutrients which can decrease anxiety. These include:
Magnesium – aids with muscle relaxation, maintenance of the heart muscle, neuromuscular transmission and widening of the blood vessels. A deficiency of magnesium can cause:
B Complex Vitamins – these are the spark plugs for our body. They help provide energy by acting with enzymes to convert major nutrients such as carbohydrates to energy forms.
