I have been plagued with depression my whole life but have never been on medication. I can tell you what has helped me. Psychotherapy worked wonders, for one thing. But for the long term, I would say physical exercise is the number one most important way for me to stave off depression. Even just a 30 minute walk or a gentle gentle yoga class. It doesn't have to be a huge sweaty workout, it just has to be a regular thing that I keep up. Also finding a faith and a community of like-minded people helps tremendously (I don't think it matters which faith as long as it works for you). |

There are lots of good medications for depression and anxiety. Talk to the doctor who is currently precribing your Prozac and ask him/her for suggestions. Tell him/her exactly how you're feeling and any side effects you are having. If your doctor isn't receptive to changing your medication, you may want to find a new doctor. A psychopharmacologist or psychiatrist will have the most information about and experience with various medications, so if your Prozac is being prescribed by a primary care, get a referral to a specialist. Also, if you're not seeing a counselor or therapist, you should start seeing one. Medication is great, but it really needs to be prescribed in conjunction with psychotherapy or talk therapy. A psychologist or social worker could probably really help you. |

I don't know how long you have been on Prozac but if you just started it takes time to be effective. If you have been on it a long time I have heard that some drugs lose their effectiveness. It does take some people a long time to find the right drug and/or dosage that works best for them.
Talk to your doctor and if he/she isn't helpful consider changing doctors. |

ok, Have you tried herbal mood stimulators?, From like viatmin world or a gnc? There a few that taken together helped me a great deal. One is call L-tyrosine, it's a thyroid support, but alot of people don't know that ever so slight thyroid disfunctions can cause anxiety and depression. Fish oil, flax seed oil, multi-vitamin, inositol(either in powder or pill form), a number of B-vitamin defiencies can also cause problems, I'm anemic so I added B-12 and desicated liver( it's a pill)
These worked for me, everyone is different and if you need the perscription stuff that's ok, but try something that isn't just putting a band aid on it, try something that will make you a healthier and happier you. |

Effexor worked well for me, but different things work for different people, so talk to your doctor. |

Unfortunately you have to try a number of them to find the one that works for you.
Try welbutrin. |

How long have you been on them? They take at least 4 months for them to really kick in. Other than that, I haven't started taking any.. yet.. :) |

A drug like Zanax is used for panic attacks and anxiety but it can be additive. An herb called Valerian is used by many as a natural help to relax you and St Johns Wort is used for depression. You have to take the herb for a few months to get the effects but I have tried them and they helped me. Prozac works differently on the brain so I would ask your Doctor what he thought first . My sister was on Prozac and all it made her do was sleep so she quit it and decided to try to handle her problems without a drug like Prozac. |

Talk with your physician or psychiatrist, there are many new meds out there available to try. You always want to give 3-4 months on a trial though, because it takes that long to get into your system and work, if it is going to. There are Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, Symbayax, Effexor, to name a few. Some have anti-anxiety properties too, so talk with your doctor and give them a try. Best wishes =) |
