I'm not sure if a pap-smear specifically tests for STD's. But- I'm sure that if anything comes back abnormally, they will test you further.

when you have a pap smear done they test for all std's , not just one! there are over 30 different or more types of std alone in the united states... if you dont hear from the office then you dont have any, if you do hear from them and they describe that you could have a std, then you'll go back and retest to see if the test results were demanged or were right.

During your routine OBGYN exam, they will test for some STDs with your pap smear culture. Not ALL, and not HIV/AIDS. You have to specifically request these tests at every visit. And please ask for them!!!

I thought that only if your results came back for bacterial reasons, they continued to test for others..unless you requested it. But, I could be wrong.

Not unless you ask the doctor to do so during your exam. A Pap Smear is a test to check for pre-cancerous cells/conditions which can be caused by heredity or by the the human papilloma virus.
A Pap Smear is not a test for STD's.

Not unless you ask!!! They should have asked you if you wanted to be tested for all STD's , in which you should answer yes always. As far as an HIV test- you need to have blood drawn for that. You should ask next time!!

it was so shocking to know from the above answers how a lot of people are so ignorant of a routine screening test in USA and Europe
Pap smear named after Dr.Papanicalau who invented it screens for abnormal cells in the female cervix
Cervix cancer is common in Western societies and it is a routine to screen all women at reproductive age for this dangerous disease.
A sample of the cervix is taken put on a slide and stained with special dyes and looked under the microscope
abnormal cells appear in diseased cervix long before symptoms appear so that it can be cured completely before it spreads or even before it turns into cancer.
STD has nothing to do with this procedure in any way

They can, yes, but you would have to ask them (and pay them some more)
But otherwise, no they wont give you that test, it has to be said to them.

No it is not a test for STD's
It dose test for abnormal (unhealthy) cervical cells. cused by HPV.
What is a Pap test?
The Pap test, also called a Pap smear, checks for changes in the cells of your cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens into the vagina (birth canal). The Pap test can tell if you have an infection, abnormal (unhealthy) cervical cells, or cervical cancer.

Usually your doctor will tell you or ask you if you want a simple gonorrhea or chlamydia test. If they don't you have to ask for one and be responsible for your body.

You have to ask. Normally they just check to see how your cervical and vaginal cells are. You should get tested for std's ever few months if you are not in a monogomous relationship. Also when you get a pap ask to get tested for HPV. And ask about the Gardisol shot if you are under 27. Good luck and good health :)

No those are separate tests. The Pap tests for abnormal cells on the cervix - those cells could lead to cancer
Some STDs will cause the cells to become abnormal so if they come back they may test for STDs, but none of this causes a test for HIV.
