don't panic, it's probably something simple and innocuous like dry or irritated scalp. Central heating and harsh shampoo can really irritate your scalp, and make any dandruff problems much worse.
If the skin is not just itchy, but it's also peeling a lot(not dandruff like, but peeling severely), it could be an early stage of psoriasis. If it persists, see a dermatologist.
Don't experiment with strong anti-dandruff or anti fungal shampoos yourself, since a lot of them are very strong and can make the situation worse if you don't use the right one.
It's most likely just dry skin. Use colder water when you wash your hair, use a gentler shampoo (don't use soap), and try to massage your scalp to improve blood flow and get rid of the dead skin.

it may be dandruff or dry skin like everyone else says. i suggest a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. head and shoulders works best (and its cheap). leave your conditioner in your hair for a minute or two then rinse. it should stop itching and your hair will be smother. i hope that helps you out.=)

I just checked my medical book and it said it could be very dry skin or dandruff. Shampoo every day if possible with a mild shampoo at first and if it doesn't help, then go to a harsher one. Massage the scalp thourghly, BUT------DO NOT SCRATCH WITH FINGER NAILS, AS THIS COULD CAUSE INFECTION. If this doesn' work go to a dandruff shampoo. If stull haveing problems go to a dematologist, you could have a skin disorder. Not too much help I guess, but at least a start. Good luck

It may be dandruff. Are there flakes when you scratch? Try a different shampoo? Or maybe you're using a different shampoo than you are used to. That may be the cause.

The wrong shampoo for your scalp. Try a good moisturizing shampoo. It may take a couple applications to see effects.

Since it's winter time, my scalp becomes very very dry and flaky. I don't have dandruff it's just in the winter. Since your scalp becomes so dry it starts to itch. Hot water on your hair makes it feel a lot better. This is only temporary, it's nothing bad. Make sure you're using a very moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

I work for a dermatologist and it is possibly seborrheic dermatitis. which is an over growth of the normal yeast on our skin. try an over the counter ketoconazole shampoo which will help lower the yeast count on your scalp. For itching try scalpicin xtra strength.

It could just be dry skin or dandruff.. but it also can be psoriasis which is another form of dry skin but it in patches around the scalp.. There's this shampoo call T-gel which it soothing and works, it not harsh to wear it will irritate your scalp more than it already is.. I have long hair to my lower back and alot of time they say its from not rinsing all the shampoo out of you hair. in some cases it really is just severe dry skin and sometimes it hurts... try the T-gel ot anything for psoriasis..
